Buds Cannot Wait To Bloom

This series of collages is a cooperation work together with the photographer Lao Xie Xie. For my magazine we worked togtether to create these collages expressing bodily autonomy and sexual freedom, topics often still stigmatized in the homecountry of the photographer.

Through Juxtaposing clichéd Chinese symbolism familiar to foreign audiences with explicit
nudity and erotica he aims “to use something everybody knows to teach them something they don’t get about China.”

While still being stigmatized in society the idea that profanity and nudity in general is outright forbidden here, is mostly a western one.
This is also exactly why Lao Xie Xie’s art isn’t just “political” or “provocative”
and rather aims to visualize subcultural and underground movements actually happening in the country.
