Photography - Staging Cities
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe once claimed, Photography - Staging Cities
"Architecture wrote the history of the epochs and gave them their names."
A few years ago I stayed in Munich for a few weeks to finish an internship. During one of my first walks through the city, I was fascinated by the array of classical architecture, which created a very unique and beautiful cityscape. Quickly, I decided to atleast try and visualize this distinctive look through fashion & with the help of a juxtaposition.
There is just one german city that polarizes just as much as Munich and captivates about the same number of people every year. But the look and the design language of the city could not be more different: Berlin.
My goal was, to convey the similarities between architecture and fashion design. In both realms of design, we work with various shapes, colors, fabrics and silhouettes.
This series is also an exploration of the function of architecture within a city, how it contributes to a unique cityscape, captures certain epochs and history and also helps us to remind and sometimes warn us of past mistakes.
The temporal differences within design and a constant change of styles and aesthetics over time are things that play an important role in architecture as well as in fashion. This circumstance is also responsible for the change of entire cityscapes and the development of distinctive city-typical design languages.
